Your Menstrual Cycle doesn't have to feel like a weakness. It can be your SUPERPOWER.
Do you ever feel like you’re on a roller coaster when it comes to your hormones? Like one day you’re totally crushing your workouts. Everything and then some is checked off your to-do list. You are on your A game in every way, and the next day you can barely make it to the gym. The same weight feels way heavier. You want to laugh, cry, scream, run away to the forest, or at the very least, get chip-faced with Ben and Jerry’s while curled up in a blanket. Welcome to the magical world that is your menstrual cycle. It can feel like you’re lost without a map, BUT… this internal system has a secret guide – the four phases of your menstrual cycle. When you follow this guide, you reach your ultimate destination of harmonious well being and an inner knowledge that is magical.

The menstrual phase is the phase most of us are familiar with, your period. It’s our natural reset button and uterine cleanse. The uterine lining that is no longer needed to support a pregnancy sheds. You may experience cramps, and because your hormone levels are at their lowest, fatigue and even emotional lows. This phase is a wonderful time to reflect and practice gentle self care. A warm magnesium salt bath, curling up with a good book, watching your fave comfort sitcom, and nourishing your body with iron rich and warming foods can feel incredibly supportive. As this is your body’s natural time of release it is a potent time to release anything that is not serving you to make space for new beginnings.
The Follicular phase is after your period ends until ovulation. Energy levels rise as estrogen takes the stage. FSH triggers the follicles in your ovaries that house egg cells to start to mature. This is a playful time, and you’ll likely feel productive and creative. Channel your inner boss babe, tackle projects, and let your creative juices flow. This is an outward focused phase and you have more space for social connections and exercise, as your energy heads toward its peak. Play, try new things, and remember what a powerful woman you are.
The ovulatory phase is when Ovulation occurs. LH triggers the release of an egg, and Testosterone and estrogen Peak. You may feel unstoppable, ready to take on the world, and like a productivity queen. Your cervical mucus becomes clear and stretchy, your libido might spike, and some women experience ovulation pain (mittelschmerz). This is your fertile window, a great time to connect with your partner (if desired) or birth creative projects. Ovulation is about more than just babies, it's about honoring the creatrix within you.
The luteal phase is post ovulation until your next period. Progesterone takes the lead, preparing the uterine lining for a potential pregnancy. Towards the end of this phase you can experience PMS symptoms like mood swings, bloating, constipation, tender, swollen breasts, and migraine headaches. PMS symptoms are common but not part of an optimal menstrual cycle, so keep track of your symptoms to share with your medical provider . Be kind to yourself during this time. Prioritize rest, stress management techniques like meditation and movement, and nourishing liver supporting foods. Listening to your body can help with lessening unwanted symptoms. This is an inward focused time and you can use that introspective energy for journaling, reflection, and life editing. Time spent alone can feel especially nourishing in this phase
Understanding these phases is a total game-changer. You can start to predict your energy levels, plan your activities accordingly, and know when in your cycle you need some extra grace. You can celebrate the joys of the menstrual cycle like the relief and release at menstruation, the new beginnings and creativity in the follicular phase, the superwoman magic of ovulation, and the introverted cozy energy of the luteal phase.
Your menstrual cycle is not a weakness, it’s your SUPERPOWER . It's a message from your body, a roadmap to understanding yourself better. By exploring the phases, you unlock your feminine power and become the cycle-syncing goddess you were born to be.
I'm so glad you're here. I can't wait to help you fall in love with your cycle,
XO, Amanda
